When you’re looking for that perfect ring or other piece of jewellery, you want to get the best you can find. So which brands are considered the best and why?
We’ve all seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s – well, if we haven’t we’ve all seen the iconic Audrey Hepburn little black dress with pearls, an up-do with tiara and a long cigarette holder. Nobody can deny that Tiffany & Co have an iconic brand, but what about the other big names? Look at this year’s Ocean’s 8, Cartier was the jeweller of the moment, with the gorgeous Toussaint necklace almost as big a star as any of the lead actresses. And who can forget Elizabeth Taylor adorned with Bulgari baubles in the lavish Cleopatra – a relationship she took offscreen, covered in Bulgari jewels in just about any photo you can find.
So what is it that entrances us when we see one of these big names? Is it that they have superior craftsmanship or better quality materials? Is it the fact that the brands seem to transcend material goods? Is it that the creators of these things dream up such amazing creations that anything in their collection is imbued with some of this greatness? Is it a combination of all these things?
There’s no doubt that when you’re buying something from Tiffany & Co or Cartier or any of the worldwide fine jewellery stores you are buying something of superior quality. Tiffany cut their own diamonds to their exact specifications and they say that only the most perfectly cut diamonds earn the right to be placed in the legendary Tiffany Blue Box.
Cartier have definitely put the art of watchmaking as a high priority. They work constantly to create the best possible movement – even sometimes putting it on show with a clear back making the movement visible. Of course you can expect the same high quality materials that they use with their jewellery collection so you can be sure that the piece will be durable.
Then we have the big fashion houses such as Emporio Armani, Gucci etc who not only make the clothes we wear but the accessories we use to accentuate the look. These brands also have quality as a big selling point so we can expect that these pieces will not only exude style and elegance but also keep their look, especially with regular cleaning to maintain the shine.
One of the reasons we love these pieces is that for some reason there is a romance, a mystique attached to a piece which comes in a little blue Tiffany or a red Cartier box. As soon as the words ‘it’s Tiffany’ pass our lips there is an ‘ooh’ that goes on in the heads of those within earshot. The only barrier then is the price tag, which can sometimes dim the shine of these pieces which last a lifetime.
That’s where ME Jewellers come in. We have the pieces, without the price tag. In most cases our jewellery is in mint condition, having been professionally cleaned and polished upon receipt. The best part is we can offer them at a reduced price and you’ll still have the piece decades from now, becoming a lovely vintage investment piece. That’s what I call smart buying.
Have a look at these other Tiffany pieces. Maybe one of them might be the right one for your budget.
